Jeremy's California dreaming

On such a winter's day - as the famous song goes - although it would now appear that California is fast becoming known for another phenomenon - its cuisine.  With around 300 wineries in the Napa Valley and 9 Michelin-star restaurants, the fast evolving Californian cuisine is worth taking a look at.

With their outdoor and health-conscious lifestyles, the Californians love to use the freshest fruit, vegetables and meats, preferably organic, and the Californian coast is a bountiful source of seafood.  Mediterranean-style dishes full of fresh, clean Californian flavours feature in menus, as well as dishes with Asian influences, making food in the Golden State alive with diversity and taste.  Believe me, it is not all about tacos!

So now is an exciting time to take a trip down the Californian culinary road - and on Thursday 24th November we are hosting a Californian supper as the last in our series of Autumn Thursday suppers - a 4-course menu featuring warm salad of goat cheese, egg plant, verjus and pine nuts, chargrilled organic salmon Asian slaw, cilantiro and citrus dressing; free range chicken, wilted greens, creamed sweetcorn, smoked bacon, Zinfandel reduction with spiced pumpkin tart, pomegranate granita to follow.  £30 per person, from 7pm. And don't forget that Noma in Copenhagen is still voted the world's number one restaurant, so Vera is keen to show just how delicious Danish food can be with good produce and a creative hand at our Nordic Thursday supper on Thursday 10th November.  Please either book online or call us.

Congratulations to our young chef, Rob Lightbody, who has made it through to the Young Sussex Chefs' cook-off in a few weeks time at the Amex stadium, Brighton.  It is brilliant news and he is flying the flag for Jeremy's. Thank you to everyone who took the time and effort to vote for him and Jimmy Gray.  Rivalry to the end!  We will keep you posted on his progress.
