On Thursday 29 June we welcome Miquel Coca i Fito to guide us through a series of summery Spanish wines - from Catalunya in the north east to Galicia in the north west.
Brothers Miquel and Toni grew up in their parents’ Catalan vineyards. They are based there still, in the Montsant region that loops around the steep hills of Priorat, inland from the Med, down the coast from Barcelona.
But they have also travelled off-piste, creating characterful modern wines together with other small-scale winemakers in the cool Atlantic river gorges of Galicia, to the north of Portugal.
Just look at these label designs for a foretaste of the flavours! We’ll start with a fresh, old-vine Garnacha white from the remote Catalan region of Terra Alta, then an aromatic Albariño from Galicia with the first course.
Tolo de Xisto, our first red, is a wacky, spicy, raspberry fruity wine so perfect for a warm evening in June (no rain in Spain), and then comes a soft, rich red, Jaspi Negre from Montsant, with the main course
The sweet wine will be a gorgeous, cherry-scented wine made from the concentrated grapes of old Montsant vines, not too sweet, just the thing for cherries and chocolate.
The garden will be at its peak of loveliness, and Jeremy, new head chef Eliott and team will weave our Sussex produce into Spanish themes.
£70 per person to include all wines, tapas, four courses, coffee and ‘pastelitos’. 7.30pm for 8pm.
