All change at Jeremy's Restaurant
These are among the hardest words I will ever have to write to our wonderful customers. It has been an open secret to many that for some time we have been seeking to retire after forty years, or so, in the hospitality industry that we have loved and enjoyed so much.
And so, with regards to Jeremy’s Restaurant – though not Café Elvira – that time has now come.
Our last service as Jeremy’s Restaurant will be dinner on Friday 1 October, when we will also bid farewell to head chef Jimmy and Maria as they seek new adventures too. As we have been unable to agree terms for the succession with our landlords, we have taken the decision not to recruit a new kitchen team to continue the fine dining.
The intention following the restaurant’s closure on 2 October is for us to have a fortnight’s break, a holiday and a rest, and to reopen Café Elvira from Wednesday 20 October opening from 9am to 5pm, Wednesday to Sunday AND two evenings per week on Friday and Saturdays for brasserie-style supper.
We will host events whenever we can and offer the restaurant space for a variety of uses, pop-up suppers, nutritional courses and cookery classes, etc, and more to follow on that as we progress ideas..
Our sincerest thanks to all our friends and customers – some still remember our first fledgling bistro, Elvira’s, in Cuckfield, followed by the first Jeremy’s at the King’s Head and then Jeremy’s at the Crabtree, Lower Beeding.
The journey has been rich and rewarding but the time has now come to start dreaming about grilling sardines on an open fire at sunset on a sandy far away shore!
Thanks for sharing good times with us, Jeremy, Vera and the team.
