Summer solstice has been and gone.  Vera and I didn't join the 20,000 to see the sun rise, but we have just returned, revived and inspired, from a trip to the "world's best restaurant", Noma in Copenhagen (you can read all about it here).  It was truly a magnificent experience, not only to taste some wonderful flavour combinations, but to take comfort that we do some good things here too!

As the saying goes, "summer's lease hath all too short a date," and we intend to make the most of the alfresco weather and fresh summer produce that is on our doorstep: local fruits and berries full of flavour as well as locally-sourced vegetables and fish.  Recently we had a proud-to-be-English moment when we tried a 'cool climate' Pinot Noir that 'down the road'  Bookers Vineyard in Bolney brought up to us to try.  A lovely, balanced red, bursting with fruit.  Look out for it on our wine list.

We would also like to thank all our customers who took the time to vote for us in Gordon Ramsey's search for  "Ramsey's Best Restaurant" on Channel 4.  It would appear, after last week's hour-long phone interview, that we have made it to the next round.  Fingers crossed that we go all the way.

Perhaps on not such a good note, as if the hike in VAT wasn't enough, customers may experience a bit of disruption getting to us as a result of a few  weeks of essential gas works that have just started in the area.   Access to our part of the Balcombe Road, heading north, is blocked from the centre of Haywards Heath (by the back of Sainsbury's). You need to circumnavigate the works via Harlands Road, turn right into Penland Road and to the top, which cuts out the gas works.  All is fine if coming to us from Cuckfield, via Hanlye Lane, or south from Balcombe.
