Midsummer arrives with the extra frisson of an Ashes series upon us. They are partial to witchety grubs in Australia and apparently insects are going to be the big food story of the future in the UK. Call me old fashioned, but no thanks! Closer to home, Beal’s Farm in North Chailey is producing some very fine charcuterie made from the heritage rare breed Mangalitza pig. Well done Vera for discovering this local gem on a recent Countryfile programme.
For Jeremy’s and our loyal customers, the summer holds all sorts of goodies – our beautiful terrace for a touch of al fresco dining, our good-value summery menu of the day and of course a great line-up of events, summer BBQs and wine dinners.
Blackdown Artisan Spirit 27 August
We look forward to welcoming Sussex distiller Sarah Thompson on Thursday 27 August for our Blackdown Artisan Spirit's evening. Described as "the original Sussex vodka, Sussex Dry Gin and Sussex Vermouth producers", Blackdown Artisan spirits are produced by hand in small batches using carefully selected, local ingredients.
The producer, Sarah, will showcase her internationally award-winning silver birch infused gin and vermouth, crafted not far from here at Pulborough - as well as fruit liqueurs from the Lurgashall Winery.
Jeremy’s kitchen will create a matching menu to accompany what we regard as quintessentially English drinks, made locally to us here in Sussex.
7.30pm for 8pm. Please book on line or call 01444 441102. £55 per person, 3-course dinner and cocktail reception.
What a picture, what a photograph!
You may notice our social media pages and website have had a bit of a make-over with lovely, fresh pictures by Julia Claxton. She has captured the essence of Jeremy’s and its garden, and Café Elvira too.

Cooking up a storm
We have also had a great time with our friends at the Brighton and Hove Food Festival last month. Jeremy and Maria cooked a stunning dish of local crab and asparagus at the show's live food demo.
Jimmy and Maria also took part in the Festival's ‘The Three Chefs go to the Movies’ supper at the Curry Leaf Café.
Jimmy picked The Great Gatsby as his theme and made quite an impression with his gold leaf, smoking dessert and '20s' dancers! (Jimmy far left in pic!)
Young talent - Chef of the Year Sussex Food and Drink Awards 2015/16
Having skipped a year of participating, we are pleased to announce that Maria is up for young Chef Of The Year in the 2015/16 Sussex Food and Drink Awards.
We are thrilled she has been nominated in what is predominately a male domain. Jimmy won the title in the 2011/12 Awards and we still bask in the glory. And Jeremy's won Best Eating Experience in 2013/14. We wish Maria all the best and will support her all we can. Each year that category gets tougher and tougher, but we know she will give it her all.
