We are back in business (snow notwithstanding) following our annual recharge and looking forward to an upbeat year ahead with excitement growing as head chef, Jimmy Gray, finds out if he has nailed Sussex Young Chef of the Year at the Sussex Food and Drink Awards 2012/13 later this month.
Certainly, one of the highlights of last year was to receive The Good Food Guide Readers' Restaurant of the Year 2013 - an event which we are celebrating with a special dinner on the first official day of Spring, Thursday 21st March. We look forward to welcoming both long standing and more recent customers. £60 per person, including canape reception, wine, coffee and petits fours. To make reservation please either call us 01444 441102 or book online.
We have invested in some sous vide (water baths, etc) technology to keep the kitchen team stimulated, enabling us to work with new techniques, develop new dishes and work towards achieving a Michelin star, perhaps.
Cafe Elvira is thriving, thanks to Vera and her team's hard work, good taste and natural ability to create a welcoming, warm environment. What the Danes call 'hygge'. Thanks to Jo for minding the shop during our break. We are also delighted that Maggie Lamb is going to continue looking after the walled garden's terrace beds following her breathtaking floral displays last year, with even more emphasis on culinary use which gives us so much joy in the kitchen. Thanks so much for her continued support.
Other stories for this year, so far, is our newly forged relationship with Holly Taylor and her gluten-free pop-up restaurant at Jeremy's once a month, on a Monday. Holly is the founder of the first pop-up in Sussex, called Pure Taste. To look at the forthcoming dates and make bookings, please visit her website (click here).
We look forward to seeing you soon.
