No. 7 Jeremy’s Restaurant "What could be more idyllic than dining in a converted stable block with gorgeous views of a Victorian walled Sussex garden. The simply decorated room is enlivened with exposed rafters and contemporary artwork and sculptures, and a warm and welcoming atmosphere engendered by owners Jeremy and Vera Ashpool who have been in the restaurant business for thirty years. When in season, chef Jeremy puts produce from the gardens including herbs, edible flowers, lavender and wild garlic to good use and there’s always local ingredients such as sweet and tender Southdown lamb that might be imaginatively served with sweetcorn, pistachio, apricot and feta cheese or South Coast mackerel that’s cured and accompanied by baby turnip, apple and a watercress emulsion. Remember you’re in English wine country so give the occasion a bit of locally sourced romantic fizz with a glass of the superb sparkling wine from Ridgeview winery in nearby Ditchling.“dining here al fresco is one of life’s pleasures”; “brilliant”
