On Wednesday 18th April we welcome Andrew Gunn of the Iona Estate, a giant amongst South African winemakers (literally!), to host our first wine and food pairing dinner of the spring season.
The winery is situated in Elgin, east of Cape Town, an area notable for its unique cool climate which contributes to exceptional flavour development. An English spring is the perfect time for our skilled young kitchen team to find the ingredients that best match the four wines that Andrew will be showing - his Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Bordeaux blend and Syrah. The menu will be available shortly on our website but, as ever, we preview the dinner to our email club first. As usual, we take bookings for 7.30pm onwards for a drinks and canape reception before sitting down at 8pm for a 4-course dinner with wines, coffee and petits four at an exclusive price of £60 per person.
We are indebted to Joe Wadhams of Enotria Limited, whose wines we have listed since our opening at Borde Hill in April 1998, for securing Andrew's company and also for arranging another dinner with our dear friend and winemaker, Matteo Ascheri, on Thursday 24th May. The white truffle season may be over in Piedmont but plenty of exciting, seasonal flavours will be unveiled to honour Matteo's return, cementing a special relationship which started when we cooked in his Osteria in Bra surrounded by Union Jacks and a rousing chorus of the national anthem by his local Italian clientele.
