South African braai Thursday 19 July
So on 19 July, head for the lawn for a festival-style tasting of the best ever biltong and South African wines. There’ll be other nibbles, served with old-vine Swartland Sauvignon Blanc.
Then a selection of starters and salads, and meat and boerewors (sausages) on the braai (bbq), all matched with delicious wines from Spice Route in Swartland, including a gorgeous sweet wine with dessert.
Late last century, maverick South African winemaker Charles Back happened upon some stunning yet undiscovered vineyards in the backwater of the Swartland region, known for its wheat and tobacco rather than its wines.
Now Swartland is the source of many of South Africa’s best wines, and Spice Route wines are still out in the forefront.
£70 per person, all inclusive.
Willy Wonka of Wine Thursday 26 July
Chester Osborn has been known to dress up as Willy Wonka. You can see the resemblance, although his curly hair is longer, and for Jeremy’s in high summer, he’s way more likely to sport a flowery shirt. Chester is fourth-generation winemaker at d’Arenberg in the picturesque McLaren Vale, edge of Adelaide.
He makes wines with flair and feeling, mostly from Rhône varieties but from other grapes too. d’Arenberg is one of Australia’s leading family-owned wineries, and we are so lucky to have Chester to present his family wines at our late July wine dinner!
Sign up for aperitif and nibbles, four courses paired with d’Arenberg wines, coffee and petits fours, £75 all inclusive.
